The Hard Way
We had an assignment for an audio class I'm taking to choose from 3 voiceovers and add appropriate music/audio to it. The first two were promotional voiceovers for companies, and I'm not too inclined to be advertised to while working to improve upon the advertisements so as to spread it and have my classmates listen to a commercial again. The voiceover I chose is more like a 1min fortune cookie, providing a life lesson with an explanation.
Anyway, here's the audio with my explanation of my work:
*Remember, this is for a class with a lot of older people that have more or less no idea who/what I'm talking about, so I had to keep the answer somewhat simplistic.

I semi worked backwards on this assignment. When I was going through the voiceovers in the 0900 folder, I was just planning on scanning them to ponder what I wanted to do with which one. But when I heard the third one, I got an idea right away that I wanted to run with. Perhaps I was influenced by just previously watching the opening montage from The Departed (the Scorcese remake, not the original Hong Kong version), but it immediately drew images to me of people trying to make it and come out of harsher environments and harder lives. This song by Big L which I have the instrumental of came into my brain and seemed to work in my mind, so I tried it out and I think it works. Maybe I might have expected some violins or something to this voiceover to sound classical and distinguished, but I think giving it this beat by Big L adds a more contemporary feel to a timeless lesson. Big L was shot and killed a few years back, which is definitely a shame because he had a lot of talent. His wordplay was sharp and his delivery on point. Coincidentally, we share the same birthday. He had dark times in his life before becoming a well-known rapper, as evidenced by how he met his demise, but putting this voiceover to his music is a sort of tribute to how he did put the work in, but made it sound so easy, which fits in well with the spirit of the message.
