I feel like I need to go somewhere. Get away. I haven't gone anywhere further than LA for quite some time now, at least over a year. At least. What does this do to me? It makes me think less. I'm so used to my routine of my everyday that there isn't really much that I need to think about.
It's like that one writer/journalist who went to some eastern European country and couldn't speak the language. She got so much writing done because all the distractions had been pretty much stripped from her and she was left with nothing but tv she couldn't understand and her own thoughts.
I'm not HDT (Henry David Thoreau) when I travel or anything, but it's definitely refreshing. I guess it's a bigger version of those times when you forget your cellphone at home. At first, you freak out because omg you're missing an appendage, but after a while, you realize how relaxed you've become because you don't have to worry about your personal tethering device. You don't worry about those everyday impositions by whomever wants you to contact them back and you're left with whatever thoughts and feelings you have of how your day is going for you and only you (or whoever you might also be with). It's grand. Guess what, you're actually a person! Not just a couple of thumbs on the other end of a text message.
So yeah, I want to go somewhere. Seattle/Vancouver, I'm looking at you.
I've been unhappy with my Samsung T629 slider phone I bought because it was sexy and slim. Now, I've come to learn my lesson with my shallowness. I needed to go back to my older K750i that was a phone with "more to love". The phone, unfortunately, met its fate with the tragic falling flower vase accident. However, only it's screen was messed up, the guts were still functioning. Well, I finally trusted enough in HK parts and eBayed a replacement screen and screen cover to replace the cracked portions on my phone. They came with the necessary tools, though the mini screwdriver required I already had (from my old Tech Deck, surprisingly enough) and previously used it to open up the ram protection shield on my iBook. So, I took my phone apart, replaced the bits, and now it's working perfectly fine. I heard the replacement screens (not being made by Sony) weren't as bright, but I don't notice too much of a difference, it is a bit tough to see in bright light, but that's all screens anyhow. The only thing that didn't function as it should was the home charger, which was from a company in Canada. Go figure. It's a little thicker to carry around, but it's so much more functional and intuitive/smart compared to the Samsung. I used to really like Samsung, too...
I used to have this pic on Flickr, but I guess it was posted more than 200 pics ago:
