Do you remember that post a while back that I mentioned I wanted to post music, but didn't like the icons that took up all that space so I wanted to put the songs to video and then post it? Well, here's one: It's my sister jumping rope to "Apply Some Pressure".
I still can't shake this tune.
So this Planet B-Boy trailer:
...reminded me of this DJ Kemo video with Massive Monkeys:
And yet it also brings people together like Fleischer teaming up with DJ Format:
...it's gonna be some different type D's, nah'm sayin?
This is a couple months old, but what the hell:
not new (<-- double entendre!), but still dope
speaking of which, i think old school cats used to want to be dope and new school cats just want to be cool.
back then, dudes was wylin out with they concepts and rhymes and what they wore.
they had a style that was theirs.
now, there are all these dudes that just want to be cool, talk about money they don't have (in hopes of making it, i.e. "fake it til you make it"), and just posture.
their rhymes aren't clever and their style is boring.
the industry is so big now that people just try to follow a formula that they've seen the next man do successfully and then there will be some label that will pair up and try to make a buck off of it, too.
dudes just want to be cool.
whereas if they actually focused, harnessed their creative energies and truly expressed themselves and came up with their own unique take on things, they could actually be dope.
of course, this is a pretty broad stroke as there are cases that can dispute my thinking here, but i'm just saying on the whole it all just seems to be a bit worn down.
i mean, really, how long ago was Cuban Linx?
it's a testament to how great the album is with its effects still being seen/felt/heard today, but not everyone out there is the chef.
there's just so much money going around because it's such a big industry now that there's a ton of stuff that is just watered down.
it'd be like if the NBA had 100+ teams.
Sure there would still be great players in the league, but they'd be fewer and farther between.
One of my favourite music videos. I can watch this on repeat for a very long time.
